  • The Recycling Value Pattern is part of the upcycle and recycle stage of the customer experience.

The customer looks up the recycling options for his product, for example in its digital passport. After clicking the product, it expands to show the proportion of the embodied materials and their recycling value.

The customer then can proceed to the options for recycling his product properly. As recycling should be the last option to keep a product in the cycle, he is once more invited to give his product a second chance by reselling or refurbishing, which also results in a higher value.

The customer in this example goes for a commercial recycling service and browses offers from different service providers, who collect the product or offer to schedule a drop off, but do not pay for the product. There’s also an offer by the manufacturer, who would 25% of the recycling value, but wants to evaluate the product first.

If the customer chooses this option, he proceeds to a valuation process.

  • Customers do not know how to recycle complex products with lots of different materials and components properly.

  • At the end of life, proper recycling is essential to keep valuable materials and components in the cycle.
