  • The “Reusable Packaging” patterns are part of the purchase stage of the customer experience.

    The Free Service Pattern is using a method we know from subscription models. The packaging is actually only for free if returned within four weeks, which makes sense given the value of reusable packaging. The customer can simply accept this deal by proceeding to check out.

    If he wants to switch to a single use packaging, he is confronted with a behavioral design pattern to nudge him back to the reusable option. In this case, it’s a social acceptance pattern. This is regarded a dark pattern, so decide for yourself if you want to use it.

    From here, the customer can proceed to checkout with reusable packaging.
