  • The „Reusable Packaging“ patterns are part of the purchase stage of the customer experience.

    The Discount Pattern is suited for reusable packaging that requires a deposit. As an extra incentive to order a product with reusable packaging, the customer gets the chance to reduce the price of his product. As he is emotionally more attached to his new product than to its packing, it’s clever to apply the discount here.

    If he want to switch to a single use packaging, he is confronted with a behavioral design pattern to nudge him back to the reusable option. In this case, it’s a loss aversion pattern. It is regarded a dark pattern, so decide for yourself if you want to use it.

    From here, the customer can proceed to checkout with reusable packaging.
