  • The Virtual Products Pattern is part of the extended use stage of the customer experience.

    The overview of virtual products of the customer shows a variety of products that he actually does not own, but has access to. It’s basically a marketplace for products-as-a-service in his pocket.

    If he for example needs to use a laundry machine, he can choose from using someone’s private laundry machine in the vicinity for a small fee, or do his own laundry in a launderette, or give his laundry to a dry cleaning service who will do the job for him. He can filter the list according to the needs he has today. And finally make an appointment with the service provider he would like to work with this time.

  • We own a lot of products not because we constantly need them, but because constant access to their services is convenient. Products-as-a-service models are unfamiliar to customers and therefore seem inconvenient.

  • By making access to products-as-service more convenient for customers, less products need to be manufactured.
