  • The Social Acceptance Pattern is a behavioral design pattern that is used in several patterns across all stages of the customer experience.

    In the shopping cart of the customer, a biodegradable packaging is included by default. A default is another behavioral pattern that is also described in this section of the library.

    If the customer unchecks this box and opts-out of this service, he is informed that most customers go for the biodegradable option. This information of course has to be correct and needs to be backed up by data.

    The placing of the button to proceed with a biodegradable option is also more prominent than the cross to close the overlay. This makes it even more look like the average choice that everyone makes, and people like to behave like everyone else to fit in.

    Note: If the biodegradable option is more expensive than a regular packaging, a default like this might be illegal in some countries.

  • Circular services are unfamiliar to customers.

  • By making circular services the socially accepted choice, more customers will make it and use these services.
