  • The Capsule Patterns are part of the extended use stage of the customer experience.

The capsule shows products that create an ecosystem. The concept of the capsule originates from fashion. The goal is to create a variety of looks with very few garments, saving money and resources.

In this example, several electrical appliances share the same battery pack. And a garden hose is also used for the pressure cleaner und the garden shower. It also is part of another capsule for camping equipment.

Capsules are an instrument to downsize on redundant products and make sure that equipment does not only fit together, but also that single items serve multiple use cases.

And if one product like a pruning saw is broken and cannot be repaired, the customer could replace it with a virtual product, that he only rents when he needs it – two times a year – instead of buying a new one.

  • An average American household contains 300.000 things. To reduce this, single objects and products should serve multiple use cases and need to be part of an ecosystem.

  • By optimizing the possession of products on a system level, less products are necessary and less resources are needed to manufacture them.
